Anne Morris, a leadership consultant and executive coach, has recently given a TED Talk about her five steps for solving any problem at work. Morris believes that with the right approach, any problem can be solved.
Her first step is to define the problem. Many people go straight to trying to solve the problem without actually understanding what the problem is.
Morris recommends that you take the time to thoroughly understand the issue and come up with a detailed, clear definition of the problem.
Next, she suggests brainstorming potential solutions. This is done by getting the right people in the room and really thinking outside the box for solutions.
It’s important to remember that there is no wrong answer during this step, so don’t be afraid to come up with ideas that seem outrageous.
Third, Morris emphasizes the need to prioritize solutions. Once you have a list of solutions, you can identify which ones are most feasible and effective.
This is done by analyzing the consequences of each solution and determining which have the most potential for success.
Fourth, Morris recommends testing the solutions. This can be done by running experiments or conducting surveys.
This will help you to determine which solution is the best one to move forward with.
Finally, Morris suggests implementing the solution. Once you have identified the best solution, it’s time to move forward and put it into action.
This will involve getting the right people and resources in place and ensuring that everyone is on board with the solution.
By following Morris’ five steps, you can be sure that you are taking the right approach to solve any problem at work.
